I recently came across some new NVIDIA drivers for Win2k/XP and I thought I would share them with you. This driver is dated 22nd of January and its version is 42.81. I believe this is the latest NVIDIA driver available at this time. If you fancy trying it, click on Read More for more info and download.
P.S. I haven't gone AWOL Newsfactory, I was just deep deep deep undercover (lol) Update: Looks like today is Nvidia Detonator day. Just received the information, that Guru3d has Detonator 42.86 available.

NVIDIA 4.2.8.1 BETA DETONATOR DRIVER FOR Windows 2000/XP
driver dated 01/22/2003 (22nd of January 2003) full Multilanguage generic release supports all NVIDIA desktop/workstation cards to date preliminary support for NV31, NV31GL and NV34, NV34GL chipsets fully DirectX 9 compatible driver installs NVIDIA MediaCenter by default (can be disabled) should offer increased performance over recent 42.xx drivers BETA driver - unsupported by NVIDIA - install only at your own risk!
I'm afraid this driver is currently unavailable for Win9x/ME. However, I was told a while ago by NVIDIA that new drivers should be posted "soon" on official NVIDIA website, and that would of course include drivers for Win9x/ME operating system.
Thanks go out to David (again) for mirroring the drivers for us. When more mirrors are available, I will list them here later. For now, feel free to download from the ones below.
David's Mirror 1: HERE. ( Thanks man ;) )
GURU3D Mirror 2: HERE.
Degger* : Damm, I am a lucky man that I changed my video card to an ATI so I have not that driver trouble all NV-Geekz have at them moment.
Ok, Guru3d has Detonator 42.86 for Windows 2k/XP available on their servers.
Files are dated 01/24/2003.
If you want to check this set out, download over here

The OpenGL problem is back with this driver (tested with GL Excess). 3D Mark is running fine but slower (better result with 42.01). |

NVRT 2.1 works with both versions, so your refreshrates can be fixed |

If I install a newer detonator ( > 42.01) my system isn't stable anymore (reboots in XP login screen, after startup). Also the the boot time increases significant. Anyone with the same problem? |

Nope, no problems here... maybe it's time for a clean setup (re-install?) With new detonator i perform a clean install of the drivers -uninstall -reboot -wait for windows to detect and install default driver -run setup -reboot -install monitor driver { because mine is connected via BNC not DCC} -run NVRT 2.1 fix refreshrates -reboot -done! |

I performed a clean setup (format c etc.) only some days ago. I install(ed) the new detonator driver(s) as you described (without the monitor-inf file installation and the refreshrate fix). Also the new 42.86 detonators have the OpenGL problem - my system only??? - and the readme contains version 41.50. Version 41.09 shows the best stability and short(est) boot time with my system (at the moment). Never had any problems with the detonator drivers. Version or stadium (beta or final) of them doesn't matter. |

Can't be DirectX 9-supportive. Why? Control panel still says "DirectX 8.1 or better". I would imagine it would correctly recognize DX9 |

DirectX 8.1 or better - better meaning dx9 - anyway, nvidia themselves has said that 42.63 onwards is dx9 driver... |

Where did "Nvidia themselves" state this? DirectX 8.1 'or better'? I think for the interests of DirectX 9(so people know that it's a DX9 driver), that it say "DirectX 9". |

I installed the 42.86 driver, seem to work well with ti4600. Being able to change all of the settings from the system tray is a nice touch, even if didI later turn it off in msconfig... |
